Alaska Cruise Day 3 - Tracy Arm Fjord Glacier
This was by far the greatest day of the entire cruise.
The Glacier was AMAZING and the slow cruise up the fjord to the glacier was spectacular, I think perhaps I should let these photos speak for themselves, and not blah blah blah all over them, I will comment on a few, but a few things before you look, the mountains along the water were at least 4000-5000 feet high perhaps higher, and they extended another 1000 feet deep, the ships status on the screens said it was over 900' deep. It was hard to fully grasp the magnitude of this, the sense of scale was not there, however when a smaller boat (smaller than the cruise ship but still big) would drive by and be near one of the icebergs you could get a feeling of how huge all of this was. There are many more photos that i'm not posting here, if you would like to see more, or even a larger scale photo, please email me. I'm happy to oblige requests.
Another taken after 10pm panorama
panorama of the Sawyer Glacier (this really should be at end)
one of the two theaters in the ship
the first Iceberg sighting
The first glacier sighting
This is actually a HUGE Iceberg, hard to tell but it is hundreds of feet long
this "dome" rock formation looked so huge and majestic
this whole valley was cut out of the rock by the glacier
one of my favorites
the first sighting of the sawyer glacier, rising HUNDREDS of feet above the water.
a Chunk of iceberg ice that the crew grabbed with a crane and put on deck 4, it remained there until the end of the cruise, slowly melting. Ice sculpting would have been a great idea. they could have carved a Mickey Mouse out of it.
another late night shot after dinner
The night's towel animal
door to the bridge
panorama of about 8 images stitched together
panorama from back of ship as we left the fjord
